Trocellen Commences Operations at New Cross-Linked Polyolefin Foam Plant in Russia

July 27, 2009

On July 7, 2009, Furukawa Electric subsidiary Trocellen GmbH (headquarters: Germany) held an opening ceremony and commenced operations at its new Russian Federation plant in the city of Klin on the outskirts of Moscow. The new plant will serve as an important manufacturing and sales base for cross-linked polyolefin foam products used in the construction, automotive and sporting industries amongst others, focusing on the growing market in the former Soviet region such as Russian and Ukraine markets. In addition to expanding the company's market within the former Soviet region, in conjunction with its three existing domestic sales offices in Russia (one in Moscow and two in other parts of the country) and a further sales office in the Ukraine, the new plant will help establish Trocellen's position as a leading provider of cross-linked foam products.

With six plants in four European countries (Germany, Italy, Spain, and Hungary), Trocellen has the largest share of the cross-linked polyolefin foam market. Previously however, it had no base of operations in Russia or any other part of the former Soviet region, a key growth market for the future. In 2002, Trocellen therefore set up a sales office in Moscow with the aim of opening up the Russian market and generating demand. Despite steadily increasing sales from that point onwards, as a result of importing products from its plant in Hungary (Polifoam) and selling them on the Russian market, the company decided to build a new plant in an effort to expand its market even further. The completion of the new plant will significantly improve the company's delivery structure (reducing delivery times from around a week to two or three days) and enable it expand its market even further into the former Soviet region.
