Results of operations in fiscal 2011

Consolidated sales in Metals segment grew 27.8% year on year, to 152.9 billion yen, for reasons such as high copper metal prices, a recovery in demand for copper strips for electronic components, and increased demand for copper pipes for air conditioners attributable to the unusually hot summer. Consolidated operating income was 3.2 billion yen, an increase of 5.4 billion yen from the previous fiscal year, thanks to the structural reform of this segment and, in particular, increased productivity to meet higher demand in the first half of the fiscal year. Non-consolidated sales grew 17.6% year on year, to 91.6 billion yen. In March 2011, the Company founded Furukawa Electric Copper Foil Taiwan Co., Ltd., a new company in Taiwan, to manufacture and sell copper foil for lithium ion batteries. This will bolster the Company's metal product business, which already holds the largest market share.
