The Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd. (hereinafter called Furukawa Electric) and KYOCERA Corporation (hereinafter called KYOCERA) carry out broadband wireless transmission experimentation using the broadband wireless communication technology “iBurst” at the Japan Cable TV & Telecommunication Show 2008 to be held at Tokyo Big Sight. Open experiments will be conducted at the exhibition site using the 2-GHz frequency band under an approval from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications. The experimental iBurst network will be installed under the charge of KYOCERA COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS Co. Ltd. (hereinafter called KCCS). The duration of the exhibition is from Thursday, June 19, 2008 to Saturday, June 21, 2008; the site is the Furukawa Electric's booth (booth number: H8), at the East 6 hall, Tokyo Big Sight.
Background
The Policy Committee on Effective Use of Frequencies for Mobile Phones and the Like in the Information and Telecommunications Technology Council (tentative translation from Japanese) is currently studying the object technology of reallocation of the 2-GHz TDD band frequencies (2.010~2.025 GHz), involving iBurst as one of the five candidates under study.
The iBurst system is designed adopting the adaptive antenna array technology to provide wide area high-speed mobile communications while making effective use of the limited frequency band. With its commercial introduction by telecommunications carriers in eleven countries overseas (as of June, 2008), it is drawing attention as an effective technology to provide broadband wireless services, and is expected to be introduced into the Japanese market in the future.

Outline of Open Experiment
Broadband transmission experiments based on iBurst are scheduled to be conducted using one base station and four mobile terminals at the exhibition site of the Japan Cable TV & Telecommunication Show 2008 at Tokyo Big Sight, where all domestic cable TV providers will get together.
