Furukawa Techno Material Co., Ltd.
Furukawa Techno Material Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Hiratsuka-shi, Kanagawa-ken; President: Nobuyuki Nakamura; Capital: 300 million yen; Capital contribution ratio of The Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd.: 100%; Hereinafter called Furukawa Techno Material) has recently acquired a “Superior Maintenance and Repair Work Method Rating” for the fire prevention kit for cable and bus duct penetration “Fire-Resistant Blockwork ROKUMARU” (Japan Patent Number 4142263) that the Company is marketing for its superiority in working efficiency from the Building and Equipment Life Cycle Association (BELCA).
ROKUMARU will be demonstrated at the Japan Home and Building Show 2008 to be held from November 12 to 14, 2008.
Background of Rating Acquisition

ROKUMARU kit for large opening

Installation example of ROKUMARU
Recently, from the standpoint of effective use and preservation of existing buildings, there is an increasing need for technologies and work methods that can properly maintain buildings and facilities annexed, whereby it is generally required to promote the development of maintenance technologies and work methods, and to smooth the progress of actual introduction to maintenance and repair work.
In terms of building compartment penetrations of electric wires and cables, the Japan Building Standard Law prescribes that these penetration areas should be provided with fire prevention measures with specified performance. In actual construction works for reform, renewal, or alternative application of buildings, however, the present situation is such that, since most electric wire replacement work is carried out simultaneously with the construction work, these fire prevention measures are disassembled temporarily to be followed by restoration.
Furukawa Techno Material early realized these facts and was quick to develop “Fire-Resistant Blockwork ROKUMARU” with superior work and rework efficiency. ROKUMARU was launched in 2002 and has established its track record mainly in repair works of factories and plants.
Moreover, gaining recognition for its unique structure and work method of fire prevention blockwork, ROKUMARU was patent registered on June 20, 2008 with a Japan Patent Number 4142263.
In view of the increased awareness of maintenance countermeasures in office buildings and the like in recent years, we applied for a third-party rating with the “Evaluation Program for Superior Maintenance and Repair Work Method” by BELCA as mentioned above, and we have lately received the rating.
This evaluation program, initiated in fiscal 2006, is intended to promote effective use of architectural technologies by evaluating the advantages of superior maintenance and repair work methods and by widely introducing these advantages to society. ROKUMARU recorded the third registration in the program sponsored by BELCA.
ROKUMARU has been evaluated to be “superior” in “work efficiency” for the following reasons:
- ROKUMARU basically consists of laying fire-resistant blocks, so that expertise and special tools are not needed, the number and weight of working materials are reduced, thereby ensuring uniform work quality.
- In case of subsequent repair work, ROKUMARU allows reuse of the block materials if they are in suitable conditions, enabling ease of restoration work.
ROKUMARU will be exhibited at the Japan Home and Building Show 2008 to be held at Tokyo Big Sight from November 12 to 14. This is organized as an exhibition to introduce products and technologies aimed at service life elongation and resource value improvement of buildings.
Furukawa Techno Material will exhibit, in addition to “Fire-Resistant Blockwork ROKUMARU” that has acquired a rating here, several new products of “Petit ROKU” series that feature aesthetic appearance best suited for post-installation work of LAN wiring and the like, a fire prevention materials kit for piping penetration “ICHIJIKAN Fire-Resistant Pack”, “ICHIJIKAN HOLD”, a fire prevention and sound insulation materials kit for hollow wall-embedded outlet boxes “HEATMEL BOX Fire Prevention and Sound Insulation Kit”, and cable fire spread prevention sheet “PROTECO SHEET P2eco”.
Moreover, product and technology seminars are scheduled to be held together with some exhibitions in which visitors can have an experience with actual installation works, thereby making proposals of various products recommendable for reform, renewal or alternative application of buildings.
Features of Fire-Resistant Blockwork ROKUMARU
Provided with 1-hour fire resistance (PS060WL-0231, etc.) certified by the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transportation, as well as:
- Ease of disassembly and restoration
For cable replacement, wiring work can be carried out simply by removing the blocks. To restore, just refill the blocks. - Materials are reusable
The blocks removed in disassembly can be reused in restoration work. - Power working tools unnecessary
No power tools, expertise and working techniques are needed since ROKUMARU basically consists of laying fire-resistant blocks. - Dust and unwanted sound not generated
Even in partial renewal of buildings in use, ROKUMARU offers construction work that considers marginal environment and workers. - Minimized remaining and end materials
Waste such as end and remaining materials are minimized enabling reduction of disposal cost, in consideration of the environment. - Simple cleanup work
Cleanup work after installation is easy since transportation of heavy machinery is not needed along with cleanup of dust and remaining materials.
