A New Heat-Resistant Ag Plating “anga” with Sulfurization Prevention Performance is Launched
- Maintaining Heat-Resistant Sulfurization Prevention Performance Even in a High-Temperature Atmosphere of 200C° -

September 25, 2009

KYOWA ELECTRIC WIRE CO., LTD.

KYOWA ELECTRIC WIRE CO., LTD. (Head Office: Osaka-shi, Osaka; President: Hisakazu Ishibashi), a member company of the Furukawa Electric Group, has developed a new Ag plating “anga” that is provided with sulfurization prevention performance even in a high-temperature atmosphere of 200C°. Various products of plated strips using this technology will be launched on October 1.

The "anga" was named to mean "this is true silver plating," to maintain silver's inherent properties.

The sales amount is targeted at 10 million yen in the second half of FY 2009, and 100 million yen in FY 2010.

Kyowa Electric Wire intends hereafter to concentrate on new functional plating technologies including the NU Series that was developed last year, thereby expanding the plating business.

Developmental Background

Various plated strip products
Various plated strip products

Silver plating is used in wide-ranging applications such as contact materials and electronic parts, since it has superior reflection property as well as many excellent electrical properties including high electrical conductivity and low contact resistance.

At the same time, however, silver plating has the shortcomings in that it is susceptible to sulfurization, whereby it loses its original advantageous properties when blackened due to sulfur components in the air.

Sulfurization prevention has been a longstanding problem, so that diverse treatments can be seen recently in various sectors. But conventional treatments have a weak point in their heat resistance. Because silver-plated materials (plated strips) have to undergo heat treatments very often when they are processed by the customers in manufacturing electronic parts, there has been a growing need for an improved sulfurization prevention treatment achieving high heat resistance.

Product Features

We have developed a silver plating film “anga,” featuring the merits as summarized below. It can be widely applied to silver-plated materials in need of sulfurization prevention.

  • The “anga” plating is a silver plating film with the highest level of sulfurization prevention performance in the industry.
  • Whereas conventional sulfurization prevention treatments are effective in normal temperatures from 20 to 30C° to maintain the products' performance, the “anga” plating does not discolor even in a high-temperature atmosphere of 200C°.
  • The “anga” plating can maintain the superior reflectivity and low contact resistance that are inherent in silver.
