The Damages Inflicted by The Tohoku - Pacific Ocean Earthquake and the restoration work

We would like to express our deepest concern to the people and the families of the victims of the Tohoku - Pacific Ocean Earthquake

This is to inform you of our assessment of the damages and the restoration progress at Furukawa Electric and its group of subsidiaries in the East of Japan.

We will fully cooperate with the consequent planed power outage. This may impact our plant operations

1. The damages and the restorations

Chiba works (Ichihara City Chiba Prefecture)
Human sufferings No major human suffering, except for some tiny injuries.
Property damages The broken part of the central drain has been restored.
The damaged equipments have been restored quickly and sequentially.
Operation Test operation for shipping is starting today (17th).
Nikko works (Nikko City Tochigi Prefecture)
Human sufferings No human suffering.
Property damages The damaged main aqueduct, ceilings and walls have been repaired.
Operation Restarted.
Copper foil division (Nikko city Tochigi Prefecture)
Human sufferings No human suffering.
Property damages The damaged equipments have been restored quickly and sequentially.
Operation Operation is affected by the planed power outage and will be on hold for about one week.
Hiratsuka works (Hiratsuka City Kanagawa Prefecture)
Human sufferings No human suffering.
Property damages No major damage has occurred to the equipments.
Operation Operation has restarted.
Yokohama works (Yokohama City Kanagawa Prefecture)
Human sufferings No human suffering.
Property damages No damage, which affects operation, has occurred.
Operation In normal operation.

Furukawa Electric Group

Furukawa-Sky Aluminum Corp.
Fukaya works (Fukaya City Saitama Prefecture), Nikko works (Nikko city Tochigi Prefecture) and Oyama works (Oyama City Tochigi Prefecture)
Human sufferings No human suffering.
Property damages Light damages have occurred in few equipments. All the restoration has been completed
Operation Restarted.
The Furukawa Battery Co., Ltd
Iwaki plant (Iwaki City Fukushima Prefecture)
Human sufferings No human suffering.
Property damages No major damage.
Operation Operation has been on hold because of utility outage such as industrial water.

Other group companies
Neither human suffering nor major equipment damage has occurred.

2. Impacts to the business performances

At this moment, impacts to the consolidated business performances caused by the earthquake are not clear. Prompt disclosure will be made when a significant impact is expected.
