News Release

Development of Connector for High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) Power Supply Systems

January 27, 2012

Furukawa Power Components Inc.

Furukawa Power Components Inc. (Head Office: Yokosuka-shi, Kanagawa; President: Shigeru Matsumoto), a Furukawa Electric Group company, and NTT FACILITIES, Inc. (Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Akiyoshi Okita) have jointly developed a connector for high voltage direct current (HVDC) power supply systems.

HVDC power supply systems are the next-generation power supply system expected to help conserve energy at telecommunication buildings and data centers. The product may be applied not only to HVDC power supply systems but also to solar, wind, and other natural power generation and also to areas involving the Smart Grid.

The product will be released by Furukawa Power Components on February 1 this year.

Background of development

The product is a connector that has been developed for application to the wire connecting sections of HVDC power supply systems.

Long-term continuous and stable power supply is guaranteed, with the specifications (DC380V) conforming to HVDC power supply systems.

The product has been designed with an emphasis on safety during work, and its mechanism offers excellent workability and operability.

Product features and specifications data

  • With several patterns of connection ports, erroneous heteropolar connections may be prevented.
  • The structure without an exposed charging section ensures safety against high voltage direct current (DC380V).
  • Since no tool is needed for wire connection work, connection workability is significantly improved compared to the conventional connection method using crimp-type terminals.
