Request to all users of the “Optical Fiber Fusion Splicer S178A - S123 Series”
Thank you very much for your continued patronage of our products.
We have determined that some of our optical fiber fusion splicers (model numbers S178A, S123A, S123M4, and S123M8) are susceptible to malfunction during use. The malfunction is characterized by the “power switch not turning on” and “power turning on arbitrarily when inserting batteries”. When this occurs, the internal power may stay on even if the power lamp and LCD monitor appear to be turned off and the power seems to be switched off. This may lead to failure if the device is left alone or placed in its storage case while in this state. Furthermore, in extremely rare cases, the heating reinforcement device can become very hot and cause a portion of the plastic case to melt. In a worst case scenario, this could lead to fire if there are flammable or combustible materials in the surrounding area. We sincerely apologize for your inconvenience and request that the product be stored with the power cord and batteries removed from the optical fiber fusion splicer when not in use.
In the event that an abnormality occurs in the heating reinforcement device, immediately turn off the optical fiber fusion splicer, remove the power cord and batteries from the optical fiber fusion splicer, and discontinue using it. In such a case, please contact our service center.
Thanks to the cooperation of our customers, replacement of electric circuit parts is only needed for the following applicable products.

Caution
Although we consider this malfunction to be extremely rare, we would like to request customers to observe the following until the applicable parts are replaced in order to ensure safe usage. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
- Remove the power cord and batteries from the main unit of the optical fiber fusion splicer when not using the optical fiber fusion splicer or when storing it in its storage case.
- Do not leave the optical fiber fusion splicer unattended while using it. Do not place it nearby flammable or combustible materials.
- In the unlikely event that you smell something burning or detect abnormal heat dissipation, immediately stop using the optical fiber fusion splicer and remove the power cord and batteries from it. In such a case, please contact our service center. Since there may be instances where the heat reinforcement device continues to generate heat even after turning off the power switch, always make sure to remove the power cord and batteries from the optical fiber fusion splicer.
