Superconducting is the phenomenon whereby electrical resistance reaches zero below a certain temperature and has the characteristic of creating a strong magnetic field that allows electric current to flow with very little loss. Because superconducting cable that uses the phenomenon of superconducting has zero electrical resistance, it enables power transmission loss to be reduced significantly.
Furukawa Electric started R&D on metal superconducting materials (low temperature superconduction) in the 1960s. Since then, in addition to metals, we have also advanced technological development of cable materials based on oxide superconductors (high temperature superconduction) and currently boast global top class technology in that area.
