  • Manufacturing of Green Trough, a cable trough made from recycled polymer, began in Europe in July 2023
  • Further reducing the environmental impact, using locally sourced recycled materials and shortening transport distances
  • Expanding the use of Green Trough in the European railroad market, aligning with the modal shift as part of the European Green Deal

Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd. (Head office: 2-6-4 Otemachi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Hideya Moridaira) began manufacturing its Green Trough cable trough from recycled polymer in Europe in July 2023 in collaboration with European Trocellen Group as the first manufacturing location of this product outside of Japan.

Background

As a group, we have outlined the Furukawa Electric Group Environmental Vision 2050, and our contributions to decarbonization and realizing a water and resource recycling-based society, we are working to reduce greenhouse gas emissions throughout the value chain and promote the use of recycled materials, including waste plastic.
Green Trough is an environmentally friendly product made primarily from recycled polymer. It possesses excellent weather, corrosion and fire resistance, and its lightweight nature contributes to reduced installation time and increased safety. Use of Green Trough is advancing not only in Japan, but also in countries around the world. It is increasingly being used in railroad markets in the UK, Germany and Denmark.

Details

Following the increased demand in Europe for Green Trough cable trough made from recycled resin, manufacturing began in Europe in July 2023 as the first manufacturing location of this product outside of Japan. Through this, we will contribute to the recycling system in Europe by using locally produced recycled materials for product manufacturing. In addition, the shorter transportation distances compared to exporting products from Japan, will lead to lower CO2 emissions and further reduce the environmental impact.

Examples of Green Trough in use

Going forward, we will contribute to promoting the modal shift as part of the European Green Deal by continuing to expand the use of Green Trough in railroad markets throughout Europe.
