At around 10:31 AM on June 18, 2019 (Tuesday), a fire accident occurred at Furukawa Electric Group company Furukawa Circuit Foil Taiwan Corporation (which manufactures and sells electrodeposited copper foil; hereinafter “FCFT”). We apologize sincerely for the serious trouble this has caused for so many people, including all local residents, the involved authorities, and our customers.

The following is an update on the information we have available as of 10AM on June 25 (Tuesday). (Updated information has been underlined)

June 18 (Tue) at around 10:31 AM – outbreak of fire

June 19 (Wed) at around 10:30 AM – confirmation by the local fire-fighting authorities that the fire had been put out

June 22 (Sat) at around 4:38 PM – an area was identified as giving off smoke, but this was immediately put out by the local fire-fighting authorities, which confirmed that the fire had been put out

An investigation is currently being carried out by the local authorities into the cause of the fire.

1. Personal injuries: We have received no reports of injuries from local residents.
   There were no injuries to employees of Furukawa Electric Group or our partner companies.
2. Physical damage:
   Factory No. 1: Some equipment has received fire-damage and manufacturing is not possible.
   Factory No. 2: Some equipment cannot be operated because electric power has been shut down at Factory No. 1. However, there has been no damage to the manufacturing equipment.
3. Environmental impact: The impact on the surrounding area has not currently been confirmed.
4. Current operational status:
   Factory No. 1: Manufacturing and shipments have been suspended.
   Factory No. 2: The operation of some equipment had been suspended, but operation has been gradually restarted since June 22.
   (note) Furukawa Electric Copper Foil Taiwan Co., Ltd. (FECT) and our Japanese factory (Harigai, Nikko City, Tochigi Prefecture) are operating normally.
5. Outlook for restart of manufacturing: We are in the process of confirming the details of damage to Factory No. 1. The cause of the fire is under investigation, and the timing for restarting manufacturing has not currently been decided.

We will cooperate fully with the implementation of investigations into the cause of the fire. When the cause becomes clear, we will implement appropriate countermeasures while looking to the guidance of the related authorities.

Mostly of the damage was at the First Electrolysis Room (foil manufacturing process) and some surrounding equipment, utilities, etc. (details are currently being confirmed).
