The greenhouse gas reduction target of the Furukawa Electric Group has been certified by the international initiative “SBTi.”
- The Group protects the global environment and contributes to realize the sustainable society. -
The Furukawa Electric Group (“the Group” below) has recently been certified by “SBTi”(note 1) for the greenhouse gas reduction target for 2030. Our initiative to deal with the achievement of the target has being promoted throughout the group and we continue to protect the global environment and to contribute to the realization of the sustainable society.
The Group has recently formulated the Furukawa Electric Group, Vision 2030: “In order to build a sustainable world and make people’s life safe, peaceful and rewarding, the Furukawa Electric Group will create solutions for the new generation of global infrastructure combining information, energy and mobility.“
On the other hand, recently, abnormal weather occurring in all around the world has exert not a little impact on the business activities of the Group, and the Group has positioned the climate change countermeasure by reducing greenhouse gas emissions as an important issue.
Therefore, in order to “build a sustainable world”, which is the first item of the Group Vision, the Group set a Science Based Target (SBT) for greenhouse gas emission reduction and applied for the 2030 target to SBTi.
The Group has been certified by SBTi for the following greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction targets.
- In Scope 1 and 2, reduce GHG emissions 26% by 2030 from a 2017 base year.
- In Scope 3, reduce GHG emissions 20% within the same timeframe.
Scope1 : Direct emissions from in-house fuel usage and industrial processes.
Scope2 : Indirect emissions from the use of electricity and heat purchased by the Company.
Scope3 : The other indirect emissions from the business activities including the value chains.
We go ahead, of course, with streamlining the energy use and the energy saving activities in the offices and the factories, we keep promoting the use of the renewable energy such as the hydroelectric power generation, which has been continuously used for a century, and the solar power generation.
The efforts to achieve our goals will be promoted throughout the value chains as well.
