  • Strengthen the trust with others through dialogue, and address the tasks as a team
  • Find satisfaction in the individual work duties

Congratulations to you all on joining our company. I am Hideya Moridaira, President of Furukawa Electric.
I am very pleased to have the opportunity today to welcome this year’s new employees brimming with hope into Furukawa Electric Group. I sincerely welcome you into Furukawa Electric Group.
We are currently working to achieve the Furukawa Electric Group Vision 2030. It sets forth the vision for our group in 2030, which is “In order to build a sustainable world and make people’s life safe, peaceful and rewarding, we will create solutions for the new generation of global infrastructure combining information, energy and mobility”.
We possess material and technological capabilities in the areas of “Metals”, “Polymers”, “Photonics” and “High frequency”. In addition, we have established trust-based relationships with many customers and business partners in each business, and our group is home to employees with diverse qualities. We will “create solutions for the new generation of global infrastructure combining information, energy and mobility” and “become a company that is essential to society”. However, achieving these major goals will require everyone in Furukawa Electric Group to come together and combine their strengths. The sum of individual actions will lead to sustainable growth of Furukawa Electric Group.
The reason our group has continued to grow for over 139 years is that while handing down the philosophy, culture and traditions from previous generations, we continually respond to the changes in the social environment, as well as the demand and expectations of customers, and we have earned their trust. I want everyone joining our group today to take on new challenges with trust and self-confidence, maintain an awareness of growing as an individual through your achievements and move forward together with your colleagues.

Three requests for new employees

Place top priority on health and safety

The main prerequisite for maintaining business continuity is “safety”. Ensuring the safety of all employees and eliminating accidents is essential for the continued growth of our group. Also, the COVID-19 pandemic brought renewed awareness of the respect for “health”. Even if a person possesses outstanding abilities, such abilities cannot be fully utilized without being in sound physical, mental and social condition. Working safely and with an awareness of health will enhance daily life as an adult. In addition, it is necessary to comply with compliance, which is a set of rules that must be followed as a member of society. “Safety”, “health” and “compliance” form the foundation of our business activities, and they should always be given top priority.

Strengthen the trust with others through dialogue, and address the tasks as a team

You will likely have the opportunity to attempt various new challenges in the future. They will probably not all go as well as you hope. When faced with something you don’t understand or are unable to accomplish alone, use the knowledge and abilities of those around you, including your superiors and other colleagues. It is important to form relationships in which you can say what needs to be said when it needs to be said. Having fun, creative dialogue as a part of active communication will enable you to strengthen the trust and solidarity, as well as make it easier to provide mutual support. Repeating this will further improve the quality of the relationship, and by sharing a similar awareness within and between the organizations and orienting everyone in the same direction, it will be possible to generate massive driving force. As a member of Furukawa Electric Group, strengthen the trust with others through dialogue, and address the tasks as a team.

Find satisfaction in the individual work duties

Recently, job fluidity has increased, and life offers more choices. However, rather than reacting to the proposed job or position by thinking “It’s not a good fit for me” or “It’s not something I want to do”, if you approach the work with your feet firmly on the ground until reaching a final conclusion, you will likely find great satisfaction that is second to none. Approaching the work with this awareness rather than just performing the tasks assigned to you and finding a sense of satisfaction will make work much more fun.

“Three valuables” in the words of Furukawa Electric founder, Ichibei Furukawa

Ichibei Furukawa described three things to value, stating, “Value employees. Value customers. Value new technology. Then contribute to society.” I believe that Furukawa Electric has been able to grow over the 139 years since our founding in 1884 due to valuing his words as part of our corporate DNA. I would like all of you to keep these “three valuables” in mind as we work together to benefit society as participants building the future.

Welcome to Furukawa Electric Group. I have high expectations for your future.

Furukawa Electric Group’s efforts towards the SDGs

Based on the “Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)” adopted by the United Nations, Furukawa Electric Group has formulated the “Furukawa Electric Group Vision 2030” which sets the year 2030 as its target and is advancing efforts with the aim to “Build a sustainable world and make people’s life safe, peaceful and rewarding, Furukawa Electric Group will create solutions for the new generation of global infrastructure combining information, energy and mobility.” Toward the achievement of our Vision 2030, we will take open, agile, and innovative approaches to promote ESG management that aims to increase corporate value over the medium to long term and will contribute to the achievement of the SDGs.
