2024 New Year’s Greeting from President Hideya Moridaira
- Summary for the Employees -
- Three requests for the employees: safety and health first, importance of dialogue and bold challenges
To begin, I offer my prayers for those people who lost their lives during the Noto Peninsula Earthquake that occurred in the afternoon of January 1, and I also extend my deepest condolences to everyone affected by the earthquake and their families.
In addition, a number of employees of Furukawa Electric Group have quickly taken action to assist the recovery from this disaster. I would like to express my gratitude for those efforts and sincerely hope you will be able to complete your work safely without any secondary accidents.
To all employees of Furukawa Electric Group, Happy New Year!
As the business environment continues to change, I am grateful for your daily efforts to respond to this change as One Furukawa.
In 2024, we will enter the second half of the 2022-2025 Medium-term Management Plan “Road to Vision 2030 – Transform and Challenge” (hereinafter “2025 Mid-term Plan”). We have made steady progress toward achieving the targets, but we still need to achieve further growth and transformation. While renewing our commitment, striving to maximize individual potential, utilizing collective experience and knowledge and working as a team, let’s make progress toward achieving the 2025 Mid-term Plan and Furukawa Electric Group Vision 2030.
Three requests for the employees
Safety and health First
Safety and health are the most important factors for maintaining business activities. At Furukawa Electric Group, we strive to enable all employees to work safely, but there are still occasionally accidents resulting from a momentary lack of attention. We also need to prevent similar accidents from occurring again. Please give sufficient consideration to working in a healthy manner and continue to improve the workplace environment.
Importance of dialogue
Dialogue has become more active compared to the past, but I believe we can further increase the frequency and opportunities for dialogue. Even when talking to someone in a different position within the organization, it is important to show mutual respect and speak frankly, as well as to listen. Such dialogue will create a trusting relationship and increase the cohesiveness of the actions. In order to further leverage our potential through dialogue, let’s clarify what needs to be strengthened and how, work quickly as a team to address the major issues and achieve results.
Bold challenges
Toward achieving our vision to “become a corporate group that is essential for solving social issues”, there have been a number of very promising examples within the company for new technologies and new markets. Within the R&D activities and new business creation activities that realize these approaches, it is important to repeatedly take on challenges without retreating or giving up in the event of failure. Also, in addition to R&D, if each and every employee works to address the issues they face in their given positions, it will lead to future success and personal growth, as well as become seeds for the growth of the organization that will later sprout. It is said that “Failure is the key to success”. Even if a particular result ends in failure, do not give up there. Learn from that failure in your next attempt.
Furukawa Electric Group’s efforts towards the SDGs
Based on the “Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)” adopted by the United Nations, Furukawa Electric Group has formulated the “Furukawa Electric Group Vision 2030” which sets the year 2030 as its target and is advancing efforts with the aim to “Build a sustainable world and make people’s life safe, peaceful and rewarding, Furukawa Electric Group will create solutions for the new generation of global infrastructure combining information, energy and mobility.” Toward the achievement of our Vision 2030, we will take open, agile, and innovative approaches to promote ESG management that aims to increase corporate value over the medium to long term and will contribute to the achievement of the SDGs.
