Greetings by President Hideya Moridaira at the FY2024 Entrance Ceremony
- Sum of individual actions will lead to sustainable growth of Furukawa Electric Group -

April 1, 2024

Congratulations to you all on joining our company. I am Hideya Moridaira, President of Furukawa Electric.
I am very pleased to have the opportunity today to welcome this year’s new employees brimming with hope into Furukawa Electric Group. I sincerely welcome you into Furukawa Electric Group.
We are currently working to achieve the Furukawa Electric Group Vision 2030. It sets forth the vision for our group in 2030, which is “In order to build a sustainable world and make people’s life safe, peaceful and rewarding, we will create solutions for the new generation of global infrastructure combining information, energy and mobility”. By achieving this ambitious goal, we aim to “become a company that is essential to society”.

This year, we celebrate our 140th anniversary. While passing down the philosophy, culture and traditions to the next generation, we have continued to grow and thrive over the years due to our ability to respond to the changes in the business environment and the requests and expectations of our customers and earn their trust.
In order to remain a corporate group that is needed by society, we need to understand our strengths and what is currently required of us, clarify how we can utilize our strengths to respond to the requests and how we can further enhance our strengths, and then take real action. I ask everyone, myself included, to reflect on this point and take action. Also, I have high expectations that the growth and challenges of the new members of the Furukawa Electric Group who have joined the company from today will be a strong driving force toward achieving Vision 2030. Let’s work together toward the future of our group.

Three requests for new employees

Place top priority on health and safety

The main prerequisite for maintaining business continuity is “safety”. Ensuring the safety of all employees and eliminating accidents is essential for the continued growth of our group. Also, the COVID-19 pandemic brought renewed awareness of the respect for “health”. Even if a person possesses outstanding abilities, such abilities cannot be fully utilized without being in sound physical, mental and social condition. Working safely and with an awareness of health will enhance daily life as an adult. In addition, it is necessary to comply with compliance, which is a set of rules that must be followed as a member of society. “Safety”, “health” and “always follow the rules” form the foundation of our business activities, and they should always be given top priority.

Strengthen the trust with others through dialogue, and address the tasks as a team

It is said that failure accompanies taking on new challenges. When attempting something you cannot achieve despite thinking and acting on your own or you are unable to achieve it alone, do not hesitate to ask for assistance from your superiors, veteran employees and colleagues. Based on mutual respect, hold frank dialogue as equals, and always listen. Active communication such as this will generate trust and solidarity. The actions will expand to other organizations and lead to faster results that do not lag behind the changes in society. As a member of Furukawa Electric Group, strengthen the trust with your colleagues through active dialogue, and tackle the issues as a team.

Strive to achieve the vision

Striving to address the issues you face in your current position will be seeds that will sprout into future success, personal growth and ultimately to the growth of the organization. Create a “vision” for yourself, recognize what you are still lacking and work to fill in that gap through your work and independent learning. At first, you may not be able to envision a clear image. Start by recognizing the differences between you and those around you, and while referencing the advice received from your superiors and veteran employees, gradually create a vision for yourself. Once you have created that vision, take bold actions without fear of failing, and strive with perseverance to achieve your dreams.

“Three valuables” in the words of Furukawa Electric founder, Ichibei Furukawa

Ichibei Furukawa described three things to value, stating, “Value employees. Value customers. Value new technology. Then contribute to society.” I believe that Furukawa Electric has been able to grow over the 140 years since our founding in 1884 due to valuing his words as part of our corporate DNA. I would like all of you to keep these “three valuables” in mind as we work together to benefit society as participants building the future.

Welcome to Furukawa Electric Group. I have high expectations for your future.

Furukawa Electric Group’s efforts towards the SDGs

Based on the “Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)” adopted by the United Nations, Furukawa Electric Group has formulated the “Furukawa Electric Group Vision 2030” which sets the year 2030 as its target and is advancing efforts with the aim to “Build a sustainable world and make people’s life safe, peaceful and rewarding, Furukawa Electric Group will create solutions for the new generation of global infrastructure combining information, energy and mobility.” Toward the achievement of our Vision 2030, we will take open, agile, and innovative approaches to promote ESG management that aims to increase corporate value over the medium to long term and will contribute to the achievement of the SDGs.
