Announcing the new “Furukawa Electric Group Purpose”

Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd. (Head Office: 2-6-4 Otemachi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Hideya Moridaira) newly established the “Furukawa Electric Group Purpose” (Japanese and English) in commemoration of the company’s 140th anniversary.
Background
Given the increasing uncertainty for the future, we have set forth the Purpose indicating our group’s reason for being and revised the structure of the Corporate Philosophy with the hope that employees will take pride in working at the group and this will lead to increased engagement at the group as a whole.
When creating the Purpose, we established a “Purpose Project Team” made up mainly of young employees who will form the next generation of leaders and discussed with group employees in Japan and overseas through multiple opportunities for dialogue.
Meaning of “Composing the core of a brighter world” incorporated in the Purpose
The Purpose indicates our group’s reason for being is to create “indispensables” as the core of a better future by honing our technological and problem-solving capabilities since our foundation to approach various social issues and take on the challenges.
Also, while carrying on Furukawa Electric founder Ichibei Furukawa’s desire to “make Japan brighter,” the wording has been revised to reflect the group’s global scale.
Going forward, by promoting awareness of the Purpose, we will increase understanding of the details and meaning among employees and work to foster empathy for the Purpose within the group. At the same time, we will strive to increase engagement and the organization’s ability to execute. In addition, centered on the Purpose, we will promote ESG management and aim to achieve sustainable growth and increased corporate value.

Furukawa Electric Group’s efforts towards the SDGs
Based on the “Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)” adopted by the United Nations, Furukawa Electric Group has formulated the “Furukawa Electric Group Vision 2030” which sets the year 2030 as its target and is advancing efforts with the aim to “Build a sustainable world and make people’s life safe, peaceful and rewarding, Furukawa Electric Group will create solutions for the new generation of global infrastructure combining information, energy and mobility.” Toward the achievement of our Vision 2030, we will take open, agile, and innovative approaches to promote ESG management that aims to increase corporate value over the medium to long term and will contribute to the achievement of the SDGs.
