Submarine water pipes are made of hard polyethylene, reinforced with stainless steel bands and its surface is armored with galvanized steel wires twisting together. Applications are mainly for water delivery to remote islands and peninsulas, but apart from those, they can also be used for the transportation of gases and liquids such as natural gas and oil, and for the taking in of sea water or the discharge of sewage.
In addition to the excellent flexibility, earthquake resistance and environmental resistance of the polyethylene pipe, Furukawa Electric’s submarine water pipes excel as they have increased resistance to pressure due to an internal pressure resistance reinforcing layer and are also equipped with weatherability, corrosion resistance, external damage resistance and high mechanical strength due to steel wire armoring and a corrosion protection layer. In addition, because we manufacture them in long lengths at our factory, they also enable the shortening of laying work periods.
