World Leader in 2G HTS Wire

Since 2000, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd., SuperPower has been the world leading developer and producer of second-generation (2G) high-temperature superconducting (HTS) wire that provides enormous advantages over conventional conductors of electric power and enables highly efficient power devices that are clean, green and smart grid compatible.

SuperPower Inc. was formed to provide a strong focus for the development and commercialization of HTS technology in applications that benefit from high energy density, operation in magnetic fields and provide environmental benefits, including energy technologies, alternative energy, medical technology, general industry, transportation, military, space and scientific research. Our mission is to be the world's leading commercial provider of state-of-the-art superconducting materials and related devices.

World Leader in 2G HTS Wire

SuperPower became a member of Furukawa Electric in 2012 as a 100% subsidiary, and since then, has refined its mass-production technology for yttrium based high-temperature superconducting wire materials and participated in various advanced projects around the world.

In 2020, SuperPower overcame the difficulties of the pandemic to complete and start production at its new plant in Schenectady, New York, America, and has continued activities towards the higher performance of its wire materials and the expansion of mass production capacity.

SuperPower’s high-temperature superconducting wire is essential for the high-field magnets in turn essential for nuclear fusion, particle accelerators and precision analytical instruments. In addition, due to a hybrid configuration with niobium-based superconducting wire, which has been cultivated for more than half a century at Nikko Works, it is possible to give high-field magnets higher performance and make them more compact.

Superconducting wires will be an essential material for achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which will realize a safe, peaceful, rewarding society and is linked directly to the improvement of the global environment. We will meet the expectations of our valued customers and take on challenges with manufacturing technology.
